The Brief

UK Power Networks is the UK’s largest electricity distributor, delivering power to more than 19 million people across London, the South East, and East of England.

Having launched the country’s first-ever independent Distribution System Operator (DSO), UKPN is required, along with five other network operators, to report to Ofgem on their activities and collaboration efforts to deliver solutions that support their customers and enable Net Zero.

Outlook Creative and UKPN have a relationship spanning over ten years, working on various design, digital and event projects during that time. We’d previously provided design support for their Stakeholder Engagement and Consumer Vulnerability Incentive (SECV) report, which bolstered our successful pitch for the DSO report design.

UKPN had scored #1 for five years on their SECV report—our one-team collaborative style and experience with this style of project would need to come into its own to ensure this run continued for the brand-new DSO submission.

Our Approach

A project of this type is fast-paced and constantly evolving, with multiple stakeholders contributing content at one time. This is where trust, process, and clear communication become even more important than usual.

Following a fruitful kick-off call, our creative team began laying out the design, leveraging the feedback from previous years’ SECV submissions to tweak and finetune for maximum impact on the DSO solution.

The report has very clear parameters and can’t exceed 30 pages, so our role was to make the content as clear and digestible as possible. We introduced colour coding, shapes, icons, and infographics, working the UKPN colour palette to boost visual clarity.

Weekly catchups meant we remained perfectly aligned throughout, allowing us to navigate bottlenecks by scaling our resources as the submission deadline approached.

“A huge thank you to you and the team for helping us get this amazing result—and being such a pleasure to work with along the way.”
